NCR seeks patent fees from big retailers, and Northern Tool fires back in court
One of the largest suppliers of point-of-sale and customer self-service systems to retailers, NCR Corp. in recent months has sent letters to several large web-only retailers alleging infringement on its technology patents. Northern Tool is disputing in court NCR’s claim that it violates up to 37 e-commerce technology patents.

Online fraud losses more than doubled last year to $600 million, up from $265 million in 2008. The largest single category of consumer complaints were related to e-mail scams in which FBI agent impersonators tried to steal personal information.

Amazon says goodbye to Colorado affiliates after the state passes a new sales tax law
The new Colorado law requires online retailers who don’t collect sales tax to notify customers of their own responsibility to hand it over to the state. Amazon says the law is unconstitutional and intended to induce web retailers to voluntarily collect sales tax. Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter says Amazon’s response is “disappointing and unjustified.”
