Compared to weekends after Thanksgiving (four), online spending last weekend was down 17%. But compared to the weekend before Christmas last year, sales are up 98%, comScore reports. Either way, cold and snow likely drove some consumers to shop online.

With Christmas looming, a larger portion of shoppers than last year plan to complete their holiday shopping online. According to an NRF survey, 40.2% of consumers plan to buy the rest of their Christmas gifts on the web vs. 34.9% at this time last year.

Europeans plan to shop more online this holiday season
36% of consumers in the United Kingdom, Germany and France expect to spend more online this holiday season, while only 14% say they will spend less. Their overall holiday spending is likely to increase only slightly, according to the survey by comScore.
