Systemax cites a tough market as it shuts down ProfitCenter Software

Wasting no time after buying the domain name of bankrupt electronics retailer Circuit City, new owner Systemax today relaunched CircuitCity.com. The new owner bought Circuit City customer lists, and it is encouraging customers to stay on those lists.

CircuitCity.com won’t stay offline for long
Systemax isn’t disclosing precisely when it will make CircuitCity.com live once more, but the company does say it’s “only days” away. When the site does go live, it will have lower prices, more products and better customer service, Systemax says.

The Internet Retailer Online Retail Index fell 6.5% last week, faster than the broader stock market. Shutterfly looked pretty as a picture, as its 10.7% gain in share price led the way among the 25 e-commerce stocks in the Online Retail Index.

Systemax clears the final hurdle in its $14 million bid for CircuitCity.com
It’s official: CircuitCity.com is now part of Systemax Inc. A judge for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia late yesterday approved the results of a May 11 auction, which included Systemax’s winning bid of $14 million.

CompUSA names a new head of business development
CompUSA, a unit of Systemax, has hired Enas Raynor as vice president of business development. Raynor joins CompUSA from Circuit City. She will be involved in rolling out CompUSA’s Retail 2.0 store concept that melds online and store shopping.
