eBay reports 12% drop in Q4 gross merchandise sales

Gross merchandise volume, the total value of goods other than motor vehicles sold through eBay`s e-commerce sites, fell 12% to $11.47 billion for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, eBay said. The number of stores on eBay’s sites declined 3% to 516,000.

Merchandise sold on eBay falls 1%, the first decline in company history

EBay Inc. posted fiscal Q3 sales of $2.12 billion, up 12% from last year, and net income of $492 million, compared to a loss of $936 million a year earlier. But total sales fell for the first time, a sign of continued weakness in eBay`s auction unit.

Merchandise sold on eBay grows 8% in Q2, slowing from double-digit increase

The sales growth raised some eyebrows, but eBay blames it on the weak economy and changes it made to weed out fraud and poor-performing sellers. PayPal, eBay’s web payment service, had another blockbuster quarter, with payment volume up 35%.

Q1 gross merchandise sales at eBay rise 18% to $12.5 billion

New listings at eBay totaled a record 575.4 million in the first quarter ended March 31. The number of active users rose 25% to 75.4 million over a year ago, while net revenue from PayPal rose 47% to $335.1 million.

Third quarter results put eBay`s gross merchandise sales at 10.8 billion, up 30% over a year ago. New listings rose 32% to 348 million and registered users are up 35% to 168.1 million.

Overstock Auctions drives $30 million in merchandise sales in first year

Overstock.com’s auction business has driven gross merchandise sales of nearly $30 million, the company reported today in marking the first full year of auction sales. Auctions has had more than 11 million listings and more than 500,000 registered users.

eBay’s 2004 gross merchandise sales rise 44% to $34.2 billion

EBay continues to top its own performance records, as 2004 gross merchandise sales rose 44% year-over-year to $34.2 billion. Q4’s growth lagged slightly, rising 39% to $9.8 billion, eBay said this week.
