Online jewelry retailer Bidz.com posts 50% drop in Q1 revenue
Net revenue at auction retailer Bidz.com fell 49.6% year over year for the first quarter to $31.2 million. By cutting operating expenses, however, the company increased its gross profit margin by 32.7%, the retailer says.

Web sales at Gap climb 21% as total sales fall 5%
The online channel continues to lead financial performance at Gap, where web sales increased 21.3% year-over-year to $236 million for the first quarter ended May 3. Web sales accounted for 6.98% of total Q1 net sales, up from 5.49% a year ago.

Sales at multi-category retailer Thralow grow 52% in past year
Sales at Thralow, parent of Binoculars.com and Telescopes.com, reached $21.65 million for the 12 months ended March 31, the company reports. Thralow reports that its gross profit margin grew by 1.6 percentage points during the 12-month period.

Abazias Inc.’s Abazias.com reported a 205% increase in second-quarter gross profit on sales of $736,000, up 89% over a year ago, the retailer said today.

Diamond retailer Abazias.com cuts expenses to move toward profits
Abazias, an online retailer of loose diamonds and jewelry sold at discount prices, cut Q2 expenses to slash its net loss to $27,000 from $790,000 a year ago. Sales fell 22% to $414,000, but gross profit rose 63%.

Odimo`s Q1 sales rise 22% year-over-year, but diamond sales crimp margins
Jewelry and gift retailer Odimo, operator of Diamond.com, Ashford.com and WorldofWatches.com, said first quarter net sales rose 22.4% to $12.8 million. But gross profits as a percent of net sales declined due to a higher proportion of diamond sales.

Overstock.com’s Q2 gross bookings rise 88% as net loss doubles
Overstock.com, a retailer of excess merchandise, said gross bookings rose 88% year-over-year for the second quarter ended June 30, to $96.6 million, but its net loss doubled to $2.3 million.

Bluefly’s Q1 gross profit rises more than 100% as revenues rise 34%
Bluefly, an online retailer of designer apparel sold at discount prices, posted a 34% increase in first-quarter net sales, to $11.1 million from $8.3 million in the year-ago period. Net loss narrowed 38% to $1.1 million.

Overstock narrowed its Q1 net loss 44% year-over-year to $2.2 million from $3.9 million, as gross bookings rose 79% to $93.4 million from $52.3 million, the company reported.

Bluefly’s sales are up 8% in quarter, but loss is up 73%
Sales at Bluefly, one of the few remaining pure-play Internet retailers, increased to $8.25 million from $7.64 million in the first quarter while net loss rose to $1.84 million vs. $1.06 million a year ago.
