Yankee Candle has agreed to acquire the Candle Acquisition Co., operator of Illuminations.com, for about $22 million. Yankee also has hired Lehman Bros. to help it explore strategic alternatives, including sale of the company.

Second-quarter Internet sales at office supplies retailer CDW rose 16.8% year-over-year to $493.5 million, as total sales rose 6.1%, the company said today.

Web sales increased 14.1% to a record $501 million from $438.9 million in Q1 2005. Total sales were $1.59 billion for Q1 2006 compared with $1.47 billion the previous year.

Harlan M. Kent promoted to COO at The Yankee Candle Co.
The Yankee Candle Co. Inc. has promoted Harlan M. Kent to chief operating officer. Kent, who joined the company in 2001 as senior vice president of the wholesale unit, was promoted to president in July 2004.

CDW posts a web sales gain of 12% for Q3
Third quarter web sales for CDW Corp. totaled $455 million, a 12% increase from web sales of about $406 million from the same quarter in 2004. Overall in the third quarter the web accounted for 27.3% of total sales.

CDW enjoys a healthy second quarter of web sales
CDW posted healthy web sales in the second quarter and is nearing the day when the Internet will account for at least one-third of all sales. For the quarter, CDW had e-commerce sales of $422.6 million, which is up 14.4% from the second quarter of 2004.
