QVC gives 700 employees their walking papers
QVC Inc. is jettisoning 700 jobs, or about 5.8% of its U.S. workforce, to trim operating costs. The TV and web retailer will save up to $40 million annually by laying off employees at its West Chester, PA, distribution center and elsewhere.

QVC’s domestic web sales grew by 12.8% in the third quarter while overall U.S. sales rose by only 2%. The web accounted for 21% of QVC’s Q3 U.S. sales, compared with 19% in the prior year.

QVC shoppers already can order online in addition to by phone. In the fall, QVC expects to expand to offer shopping via TV remote to 1.3 million U.S. cable TV subscribers, a service it’s been providing in the U.K for the past four years.
