Rhapsody chief takes on a broader role at RealNetworks

Online music sales rise for RealNetworks in the first quarter
RealNetworks, which owns and operates the Rhapsody online music service, increased music sales by 15.8% to $44.1 million in Q1. But total sales decreased year over year by 4.6% to $140.8 million and media and software-related sales declined 23.1%.

Music sales hit a flat note for RealNetworks in Q2
RealNetworks posted music sales of $37.2 million in the second quarter, up just 1% from $36.8 million in Q2 of 2007. For the first six months of 2008, digital music sales reached $75.1 million, an increase of 6% from $70.9 million in the prior year.

Rhapsody to become Yahoo’s on-demand digital music service
Rhapsody America soon will be the exclusive on-demand music service for Yahoo, replacing Yahoo Music Unlimited. Under a broad strategic alliance Yahoo and Rhapsody also plan to collaborate on other digital music services such as music downloads.

RealNetworks’ Q3 revenue tops $145 million
Online entertainment services company RealNetworks reported record revenue of $145.1 million for the third quarter of FY 2007, a 55% increase year over year. Gains were attributed in part to rising games and music sales.

RealNetworks and TiVo Inc. form a music alliance
RealNetworks has forged a marketing and technology deal with TiVo Inc. to integrate Rhapsody into TiVo’s broadband-connected video recording box. With the new relationship, RealNetworks will have access to approximately four million TiVo subscribers.
