Online music sales rise for RealNetworks in the first quarter
RealNetworks, which owns and operates the Rhapsody online music service, increased music sales by 15.8% to $44.1 million in Q1. But total sales decreased year over year by 4.6% to $140.8 million and media and software-related sales declined 23.1%.

Online entertainment provider RealNetworks’ sales grew by about 5% to $152 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2008, up $6.9 million from $145.1 million in the prior year quarter.

Online entertainment services company RealNetworks reported record revenue of $145.1 million for the third quarter of FY 2007, a 55% increase year over year. Gains were attributed in part to rising games and music sales.

Acquisition boosts RealNetworks’ subscriber base by more than 1 million
RealNetworks says it has nearly 2.7 million subscribers to its digital music services, a growth of more than 1 million from a year ago. Most of that growth comes from the acquisition of WiderThan, which enables users to download music to mobile phones.

Once more digital music sales posted solid gains for Rhapsody, RealNetworks’ digital music service, in both Q4 and for the full year. Overall, digital music accounted for 31% of total revenue of $395.3 million in 2006.
