Auctioneer eBay posts a third quarter loss despite higher auction sales
EBay Inc. reports that gross merchandise sales increased by 14.2% in the third quarter. But a previously disclosed charge related to its acquisition of Internet telephony service Skype resulted in a loss of $935.6 million.

eBay recognizes it paid the wrong number for Internet phone company Skype
EBay will take a $1.43 million charge relating to Skype. That includes a $900 million reduction in the book value of the Internet calling service that eBay bought in 2005 for $2.6 billion. Skype’s top executives are being replaced.
