Luxury goods maker Polo Ralph Lauren scores with a 19% rise in web sales

Barnes & Noble looks to digital content to revive lagging web sales
Sales at the retail chain’s web site fell 10.4% in Q4 and 1.3% for the fiscal year ended Jan. 31. Store sales fell 4.8% in Q4 and 2.7% for the year. Executives are touting the potential of greater sales of electronic books and digital content.

Q4 revenue down 1% at e-commerce platform provider Digital River
Digital River reported fourth quarter 2008 revenue of $95.9 million, down 1% from $96.9 million for the same period in 2007. For the year, Digital River reported revenue of $394.2 million, a 13% increase from $349.3 million in 2007.

Web sales grew for dELiA’s in the third quarter, but not by much
In the quarter ended Nov. 1, dELiA’s web sales rose by 3.1% from $19.1 million to $19.7 million. Overall dELiA’s logged net income of $900,000 on sales of $56.9 million vs. a net loss of $2.7 million on sales of $52 million in the third quarter of 2007.
